This page has been set up to help those working on LCA to find useful resources internationally. The page is set up in a tabular form outlining the type of resource, and contact details where the resource can be accessed. AG ökoscience carries out screening LCAs of chemicals and has done so for a number of chemicals (e.g. solvents, paint precursor compounds and recently even cadmium and gold for a telecommunications company).

finishes LG Chem LG Chemicals have experience in the LCA of the detergents, petrochemical and polymers. LG Chemical Research Park is the research center of LG Chemical Ltd which is a chemical company in Korea. The laboratory works in biotechlology, electronic materials, polymer products, etc.

Dishwashers Ökoscience
AG One-way versus returnable dishware: ökoscience has performed several studies on this subject, ranging from a literature review to full-scale LCA's comparing porcelain, polystyrene and LPB dishware incorporating recycling and final disposal. The most recent study, for a German industry association and its Swiss counterpart, incorporates the German DSD recycling scheme and is to be completed in 1999.

District heating COWI LCAs have been done on: bread, ham, newspapers, magazines, commercials, district heating, water treatment chemicals, vegetable oils, fish meal and fish oil.

Furniture BECO are management consultants, their projects include product-oriented environmental management and consultancy support on ecodesign. They define the environmental impact of products, and compare products or alternative design solutions by their ecoprofiles. Most of their projects have been conducted for the Dutch furniture industry but they have also carried out studies for the Dutch Ministry of Environment, Basque intermediary organizations, construction companies, etc.

-LCM IVL IVL is the Swedish Environmental Research Institute, they have been involved in LCA research since 1989 and has ca 15-20 persons involved in LCA work, of which 10 has LCA related work as their main working field. IVL has been working broadly with LCA, with methodology issues like characterisation (most recent;
work environment in LCA) and valuation (for example the EPS system). They have also been involved in developing methodology on the downstream processes in LCA, like waste incineration, landfilling of wastes etc. Internationally, IVL participate in the LCA work of ISO and Setac.
In the future they plan to try to combine process optimisation modelling and LCA modelling. To continue with Impact Assessment work is also desireble, as is development of the LCM concept, i.e. to develop and integrate LCA in Life Cycle Management systems. Ms Granath

Paints, varnishes
and chemicals Ökoscience
AG ökoscience has performed six studies on this subject, ranging from the BUWAL publication No. 232 in 1995 to water soluble paint components for the Swiss Varnish and Paint Manufacturers Association to floor sealants for the Swiss Federal Department of Buildings. In 1999, an update of the BUWAL 232 publication is to be commenced.

Plastic cards Ökoscience
AG ökoscience has performed a large study for Swiss Telecom comparing the use of coin-operated versus telephone card public phone booths. Subsequently we have investigated various recycling and disposal options for a major credit card company, including various disposal options.

Telecom. Nortel Nortel use LCA as a tool in their Design for Environment strategy.
They expect LCA to become part of the strategy in the near future efforts to promote environmental design. Their interests lie mainly in the substitution of hazardous materials in our product line (telecomms cabinets, switching and access products), design for recycling (fewer materials, easier dismantling, modular design, material labeling).
